Driving aggression and speeding among teen boys is decreasing.

• 13% of boys describe their driving as aggressive, down from 20% in 2005
• 19% of boys admit to speeding 10 m.p.h. or more over the speed limit, down from 25% in 2005

1. Frightfully Fun Glow Sticks.  When the darkness falls across the land, the twilight hours are the worst for vision.  Children can wander off and lose sight of their “line leaders”.  Since it’s still light out, it seems safe, but the sun goes down quickly.  Stay safe with glow stick lanyards.  If you have more than one child, try an assortment of colors to keep track.

All Hallos-Scream: Come up with a family call.  Calling someones name may not get your children to answer you back.  Come up with a family animal call.  That way, when you lose sight and make the call, you can bet they answer back.  A werewolf howl or a Coo-Coo!  Coo-Coo!  will do.  It’s fun and provides you with peace of mind.
3. Safety Stations:  Being prepared is the first rule of safety.  Before you go out haunting, walk the route yourself and plan ahead.  Contact neighbors along the way and create ‘safe-houses’ for your child in case they get lost.  Set proper expectations for your child in advance.  Give them a Halloween Treasure Map that includes the safe houses locations.  Mark the houses on the map in case they need it later.  If your child loses sight of you, they will feel confident going into one of your safe places along the way.  Equip your neighbors with an emergency card.  Just recently, we were given a missing child ID card with a recent school photo, telephone numbers where we can be reached and a hotline in case (God Forbid) something really serious happened.
